This exceptional Bizen ware vase is a signed work of authentic Japanese pottery artistry, complete with its original wooden storage box (tomobako) signed by the artist. The elegant crane neck form, combined with the natural beauty of wood-fired rice paddy clay, makes this a museum-quality piece for collectors and admirers of traditional Japanese ceramics.

Classic Tokkuri Silhouette:
The vase features the timeless "crane neck" or tokkuri bottle form—a gracefully elongated cylindrical neck that flares gently at the rim, flowing into rounded shoulders and a generous spherical body. This classic shape has been used in Japanese pottery for centuries and is prized for its elegant proportions and sophisticated aesthetic.

Authentic Bizen Yaki Character:
This piece showcases the hallmark qualities of genuine Bizen pottery with stunning natural effects created entirely through the wood-firing process. The surface displays a rich palette of deep charcoal blacks, warm russet browns, and smoky blue-grays with dramatic flashes of golden amber and copper tones. These are natural fire effects, known as "hi-iro" (fire color), created when ash and flame interacted with the iron-rich clay during days of high-temperature kiln firing.

Natural Glaze Effects:
The piece is unglazed, allowing the raw beauty of the Bizen clay to shine through. Natural ash deposits have created areas of lustrous sheen that contrast beautifully with the matte, textured surface. Golden and copper-toned flashes cascade across the body like capturing a moment of flame frozen in time. The rim shows a subtle pooling of natural ash glaze in warm amber tones.

Original Signed Wood Box:
This vase comes with its original wood storage box (tomobako), signed and sealed by the artist. The box features hand-brushed calligraphy and the artist's red seal stamp (hanko), certifying the piece's authenticity and provenance.

About Bizen Ware:
Bizen pottery has been continuously produced for over 1,000 years in Okayama Prefecture, making it one of Japan's oldest ceramic traditions and one of the Six Ancient Kilns. Bizen ware uses no glaze—all surface decoration comes from the natural interaction of clay, fire, ash, and placement in the kiln during extended wood firings that can last two weeks or more. Each piece is completely unique, bearing the unrepeatable marks of its journey through fire.

Display and Use:
Perfect as an ikebana vase for minimalist floral arrangements, a sake bottle (tokkuri), or displayed as a sculptural art object. The narrow neck is ideal for single stems or small branches in the Japanese aesthetic tradition.
