Embrace the spirit of Wabi-sabi with this authentic Bizen-yaki Matcha Bowl (Chawan). Originating from Okayama Prefecture, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, this bowl is a masterpiece of natural alchemy. It is formed from iron-rich clay and wood-fired for several days without a drop of artificial glaze.
The unique color palette—ranging from deep earth-browns to scorched charcoal—is the result of the kiln's "fire-touch" (Yohen), ensuring that no two bowls are ever the same.
Why Choose Bizen for Matcha?
The "Living" Surface: The slightly porous, unglazed interior helps aerate the tea as you whisk, creating a frothy, velvety foam that is difficult to achieve in smooth porcelain bowls.
Temperature Retention: The dense, thick-walled stoneware keeps your Matcha at the ideal drinking temperature for longer.
Organic Haptics: The bowl is heavy and textured, designed to feel substantial and grounding in your hands during a quiet moment of meditation.

The Bizen Experience
Bizen ware is famous for getting more beautiful with age. As you use this bowl, the oils from your hands and the tea will develop a soft, lustrous patina, a process the Japanese call "growing the pottery."
