The Ensō (円相) is a Zen Buddhist symbol, an incomplete circle, often painted with a single, expressive brushstroke in ink or glaze. We travel to Japan, East Asia and other countries to source and find the most unique and rare hand made and vintage pieces.

The Ensō represents the beauty of imperfection, incompleteness, and the transient nature of life, aligning with the wabi-sabi aesthetic cherished in Japanese ceramics. Each brushstroke is unique, just as each handmade vessel carries its own natural variations.

Shigaraki ware originates from Shigaraki Town in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. Renowned as one of Japan’s six oldest kilns, it boasts a rich history that spans over 1,260 years. It is renowned for its rustic, earthy beauty and strong ties to nature, which you can see in this piece. It is coarse and fire-resistant clay, made from iron-rich, sandy clay sourced from Lake Biwa’s ancient sediment.

Please note that all vintage items may show signs of age and wear due to their history. These imperfections are part of their charm and authenticity. Handmade items may also include intentional irregularities, which reflect the unique craftsmanship and character of each piece.

We do our best to accurately represent each product in photos; however, due to differences in lighting and screen settings, colors may appear slightly different in person. Please review all photos and descriptions carefully before purchasing. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
