A rare and beautiful vintage wood-fired porcelain teacup featuring natural ash glaze effects created during multi-day firing in a traditional anagama kiln. This exquisite footed cup showcases the unpredictable beauty of flame and ash, with warm amber tones melting into soft grey-beige with subtle crackle patterns. Each cup from this firing is completely unique and impossible to replicate, making this a true collector's piece of ceramic art.

The Ancient Art of Wood-Firing:
This teacup was created using one of the oldest and most revered pottery techniques - wood-firing in an anagama (climbing kiln). The firing process lasts multiple days, often a week or longer, with potters continuously feeding wood into the kiln to maintain temperatures around 1200-1300°C (2200-2400°F). This intensive, labor-intensive process creates effects that can never be achieved with modern electric or gas kilns.

Natural Ash Glaze (Shizen-yu):
The stunning colors and patterns on this cup are entirely natural, created by wood ash settling on the unglazed porcelain during the extended firing. As the temperature reaches its peak, the ash melts and forms a glaze, creating organic flows, drips, and color variations. The warm amber-to-grey gradient, subtle spotting, and delicate crackle patterns are all gifts from the fire - evidence of the flames' path through the kiln and the transformation of raw materials into glass-like beauty.

Please note: This listing is for ONE cup. 4 available. Each cup in the set is different due to the wood-firing process.
